QUIVERA GUN CLUB RULES
1. SAFETY
Safety is the responsibility of each and every club member. In order to provide a better facility and maintain a safe and pleasant environment for recreational and competitive shooting, members are required to know, observe and enforce the rules as written herein. (Additions and changes to these regulations will be published in the club newsletter and web site. Contact a club officer if you have any questions regarding these range rules) Violation of range rules may result in suspension or loss of membership privileges. Quivera, Inc. is not responsible for any accidents, personal injury, loss or theft of property.
2. PRIVILEGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
a. Range privileges are restricted to those holding current membership in Quivera, Inc. Included are immediate family members (member’s spouse, and children under 21 years of age attending school who depend on member for support, including grandchildren.
b. Key card shall not be loaned to non-members. Replacements for lost key cards may be obtained from the club secretary for $25.00. Damaged cards will be replaced at no cost.
c. A club member must accompany non-members. It is the responsibility of the member to see that the non member is signed in on the guest sheet.
d. Guests are limited to three visits. If they enjoyed the experience, they should submit an application for membership. Applications are available on the bulletin board, or may be obtained at Nick’s Pawn Shop or Cleve’s Marine and Sporting goods.
3. GENERAL SAFETY RULES.
a. Eleven fundamental rules for gun safety are:
1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
2. Always assume that every gun is always loaded.
3. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Always keep your gun unloaded till it is ready to use.
5. Be sure the gun is safe to use.
6. Know how to use and maintain the gun safely. (Owner’s manual should be obtained)
7. Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.
8. Know your target and what lies beyond. Observe the 180 degree rule
9. Wear eye and ear protection.
10. Never use drugs or alcohol before or while shooting.
11. Store your guns safely and never leave them unattended, unless unloaded and an open bolt indicator is in place.
b. Firearms shall be brought to the line unloaded, in a case, a box, a secure holster, or with the action open in a safe condition.
c. Loaded firearms shall be pointed downrange at all times.
d. No automatic weapons are permitted. Tracer and armor piercing ammunition is also prohibited.
e. Shooting at other than club approved targets is prohibited. Improper targets create serious safety and range maintenance problems.
f. All firing shall be done from the established firing position. No crossing shots.
g. Before going downrange, a shooter must receive permission from the range officer or all shooters on the firing line. Other shooters are required to extend this courtesy to a shooter who wishes to go downrange.
h. While shooters are downrange, firearms shall be unloaded and have their actions open. Firearms are not to be touched or handled. Open bolt indicators will be provided at cost. Obtain one and use it.
i. There will be no gun handling in the club room. The only exceptions are during classes involving instruction in the safe handling and use of handguns, including concealed carry classes.
j. Any loaded gun brought into the club building shall be taken to the line and cleared before it is further handled.
k. Safety violations will be reported to the Executive Committee for review and action.
4. RANGE SPECIFIC RULES.
a. Tracer and armor piercing ammunition is prohibited.
b. Due to the possibility of explosive residue igniting, black powder firearms are prohibited.
c. Shotguns are to be fired only on stall number one.
d. No shot is to be fired above the black and yellow tape on the baffles. Do not elevate your muzzle above this line, and you will not have a problem with this rule.
e. No center fire rifle rounds. No exception.
f. Pistol caliber rifles are permitted. .44 Magnum is the maximum caliber allowed. No 17HRM allowed
g. 1200 feet per second is the maximum allowed velocity for hand loaded ammunition.
h. A club safety and orientation class is a mandatory prerequisite to being issued the member’s key card. These classes will be given on the Saturday following the monthly club business meeting at 8:00 AM. A make up class will be given as needed.
5. GENERAL PROPERTY REGULATIONS.
a. Consumption of drugs or alcoholic beverages on club property is absolutely prohibited. No one shall be allowed on club property while under the influence of alcohol.
b. Shooting outside the range is strictly prohibited. Do not handle guns outside the building
c. Children – all children and shooters under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult at all times when on club property
d. Trash, including used targets must be placed in the receptacles provided.
e. You are expected to clean up after yourself. Brooms and dust pans are on the firing line.
f. Coffee pots are available for your use. Be sure to turn off the pot after you use it, and empty the grounds and rinse out the carafe before you leave.
g. The pop machine is there for you. Please put the empty cans in the receptacle provided.
h. Almost all of the lights and the heating/air conditioning systems are on timers. If there is time on them when you leave, please turn them off.
i. Targets are not free! You are expected to pay for the targets you use. These are provided at a penny or two above cost, and if members who use the targets don’t pay for them the club may be forced to discontinue having them available.
